| | Governing Boards are legally required to safeguard employees from individuals who may upbraid, insult or abuse them (illegal acts). In addition, personnel matters, especially anything valuative in nature, must be done in a closed board meeting.
If there is a complaint concerning school personnel, the complaints should be made directly to the person against whom the complaint is lodged. If unresolved, then the complaint should be directed to the Principal in writing for review and analysis. If unresolved, the complaint shall be referred to the Superintendent. The Superintendent's decision shall be final, unless one of the parties involved requests a closed session before the Governing Board on the complaint.
Whenever a complaint is made directly to the Governing Board as a whole or to an individual Governing Board member, it shall be referred to the administration for study and possible solution.
|
| | If you wish to lodge a complaint about an instructional program, please present your criticism in writing to the Superintendent.
Written complaints about programs should be very specific in nature, addressing: - The program involved.
- Specific complaints.
- Identification of complainant by name, address, any pertinent affiliation, and a statement of his basis for criticizing the particular item.
If the complaint involves any Consolidated Categorical Programs (SIP, EIA, etc.), the complainant may contact the School Site Council Chairperson to meet and discuss the complaint with the School's Administrator. If still unresolved, the complainant may appear before the Board of Trustees. Complaints against programs have a 30-day timeline.
|

Written complaints about instructional materials should contain the following information: - Title of book, recording, film or other item of instructional material.
- Name of author, publisher, producer, and/or sponsor.
- Citation of the pages and specific passages in question; reference to specific illustrations or scenes in question. (Isolated statements quoted out of context cannot be accepted as evidence to substantiate a complaint.)
- Identification of complainant by name, address, any pertinent affiliation, and a statement of his basis for criticizing the particular item.
A review of the complaints of instructional materials will be made and the Superintendent will notify you of the decision.

| | State regulations (CAC 5, SEC. 3080) require the district to establish procedures to deal with complaints regarding special education. If you believe that the district is in violation of Federal or State law governing the identification or placement of special education students, or similar issues, you may file a written complaint with the district. State regulations require that the district forward your complaint to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Procedures are available from your school principal. | |
